We got up early and it was pouring down rain and super cold and windy! We braved all that and did the hop on/hop off city bus tour. We got off to see points of interest along the Freedom Trail. One of the places we got to tour was the house of Paul Revere! So cool! It was built in the 1600’s but he didn’t live there until it was 90 years old. He had a big family—8 kids with his first wife who passed away, and then 8 more with his 2nd wife! It was a pretty small home! After that, we walked back to the hotel where we met our driver for our 4 hour private tour of Boston in our own car. Our tour guide Derrick was from Boston and was a really good guide having grown up in Boston and he knew how to get around and where all the good places to go see and park were and everything. If I ever go back to Boston, which I REALLY want to do because 1 day was NOT enough, I want to schedule another tour with him! He was good and had such a great Boston accent. We were all talking like him by the end of the day! It was only supposed to be a three hour tour but he extended it to 4 hours because he was so excited about his city!! He didn’t charge us either, so we tipped him really good at the end of the tour. We got to see so many things that would’ve been impossible to do on our own—especially not being able to get around the city as fast as he did. He even took us to the MIT and Harvard campuses and we got out and walked across the famed Hahvahd Yahd. (Harvard Yard—basically the same thing as the BYU Quad.) I bought a Harvard long sleeve t-shirt. It was fun to poke around in their bookstore. He ended our tour by dropping us off at one of his favorite Italian restaurants-- Mossaminos, and it worked out great because it was within walking distance of our hotel! It was really good Italian food! Derrick was half Irish and half Italian, so he knows where all the good restaurants are! It was a really good restaurant—kind of a hole in the wall, though. The waiter/owner was a typical Italian guy from Boston with the full on Boston accent. We accidentally got him talking politics—luckily he is republican, but boy did he have STRONG feelings about this election and all the craziness going on!!! He was funny! After, we walked around Quincy Market and poked around the little stores there. Then we headed back to the hotel to pack all our luggage and get organized. Then we played one last game of Shanghai Rummy before we settled into bed.
It has been an amazing trip and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to see this beautiful area of our country and I am so grateful for our founding fathers who founded this country on the ideals they did. I am so grateful to be an American and am proud of this great country's history!!!
