This morning we checked out of our hotel and got breakfast at a bagel bakery and restaurant near our hotel. We drove to Lake Champlain to get a quick look at that massive lake. It was foggy still, so we couldn’t see very far, but took some pictures there. After, we drove to Sharon, Vermont to visit Joseph Smith’s birthplace. The sun was out by then, and it was a beautiful day! I felt a sweet spirit there and we were the only ones there at first. The Visitor’s Center is closed, but we got to get out of the car and walk around the monument and see the old stone footings of where the home once stood. It was a VERY SMALL home!! It was really neat to poke around there and just take in the spirit that was definitely there! We then drove BACK to Massachusetts to Concord and saw Louisa May Alcott’s home. (The author of Little Women, which was my favorite book as a girl!) We also saw Walden’s Pond-- there were crazy people swimming in it!! Then we drove to Lexington, MA and took a tour of the Battle Green where the first battle of the Revolutionary War was fought. Paul Revere rode through here and yelled “The Redcoats are coming” NOT “The British are coming”. (They were all considered British at that time so he wouldn’t have yelled that!) After the tour—which was very interesting because it was just us four with a man named Jerry, dressed up in colonial attire who was very knowledgeable and passionate about colonial and Revolutionary War history!! He was a really good guide and answered all of our questions! After, we stopped in for some custard at Abbott’s, which he recommended. After we finished there, we headed for Rhode Island. We stayed at a hotel in Newport (Middletown actually, but we ate dinner down in Newport). We dumped our luggage at the hotel and then headed down the street for dinner. It was really good food!
