We Went on a Tour of Mdina and St. Paul's Catacombs on Our Own!

Today was a fun day!  McKenzie opted not to go with us today...she was tired and wanted a chill day at the hotel.  I kind of don't blame her!  We toured Mdina on our won (we ubered there) and learned all about it's history.  We started with the Mdina Glass Factory where they make beautiful Maltese glass.  We watched the guy below for quite a while, make this beautiful bird with it's wings spread out!  It's quite the process and it was very warm in that room.  I can't imagine working in a place like that!  They are quite the craftsmen though.  We poked around the store and I bought a cute little votive candle holder that was half off due to being flawed, but I couldn't find anything wrong with it!  Then we ubered to Mdina, about 10 minutes away.  It's a fun medieval town up on a hill that was built by all the people who've lived here starting with the Romans and going through history to the present day.  People still live here!  It has a fascinating history!  The Knights of St. John built it up mostly to what it looks like today.  We took an audio-visual tour and watched a movie about the history.

After, we walked about 10 minutes to see St. Paul's Catacombs.  This was even more fascinating!  Reading about how the Romans buried their dead was amazing!  We saw artifacts they found when they discovered the catacombs-- even bones and almost complete skeletons of people!  They were buried with their jewelry and pottery and other things that are still intact!  Quite amazing!  We went down into several of these catacombs and the stone "coffins" carved out of the rock were everywhere in a maze-- you'd get lost if they weren't lit up!  (The lights actually did go off for a bit while we were down there and it was really scary-- and creepy!)  We enjoyed exploring here today!  We walked back to Mdina and walked around for a bit more, got ice cream (Magnum bars, of course!) and then ubered back to our hotel.

We saw a cute Bug with "Megs" for it's license plate on our way back from Mdina!  We grabbed McKenzie at the hotel and went out to a nice dinner at a restaurant that was recommended by our driver... and it was only a 5 minute walk from our hotel.  (Hugo's)  It was really good food.  I got the burger, which was one of the juiciest burgers I've ever had and the girls got pizza-- Italian style and Bill got meat of some kind... can't remember.  We walked on the beach and poked around the shops and mall after dinner and Katelyn found a tshirt of Malta.  We walked back to the hotel...
