Today we got up early AGAIN-- 6:30, to go to Yuba Lake for the day. (Two days in a row is always BRUTAL!) We had a smaller group today and only teenagers and up. Tanner, Todd's twin also came down from Provo for the day. This was a really super fun day on the lake-- there was NOBODY there-- we maybe saw 3 or 4 boats the whole day! It was windy and a bit choppy in the am, but it got so smooth in the afternoon! It was great! Pretty much everybody at least got up on the surf board! Tanner and Todd already knew how to surf. (Todd learned on our boat in June.) Nash and Jed picked it up really fast and were surfing without the rope, Aimee and Kylie finally got it by the afternoon. Mary was the only one who wasn't able to get up. Jenell even got up! I got up and had a BLAST!! I'm loving it and almost to the point where I can drop the rope! It's so much FUN! We anchored and ate lunch-- made sandwiches and got out and swam. The water is much colder than the reservoir because it's so much deeper. After everyone was finished surfing, we broke out the tubes and let everyone play as long as they wanted on those. We were able to knock all of them off their tubes and they had a lot of fun jumping back and forth between the donut and the couch!! On the last run, Katelyn jarred her neck and head pretty badly on a wipe out! I was really worried about her--she couldn't even talk at first. Something was wrong with her jaw, she said. She ended up being ok but is very sore! We got off the lake when it started to could up and look like rain, but it never did. We saw lightening of in the distance. Afer we got out of the water, a bunch of other boats cam off. Everyone was hurrying to clean up their boats and get out of there. Jenell treated everyone to DQ ice cream sundaes afterward, on the way back to Kanosh. Here's who went: Bill, me, Katelyn, Megan and Todd, Tanner, Nash and Kylie Rasmussen, Aimee Thurman, and Jenell, Jed and Mary DeGraffenried. It as just the right amount of people and everyone got plenty of time on the water! It was a fun day. We got home and organized and cleaned everything up to store the boat with Jenell and Owen while we're gone to Malta. It took a long time! Boats are time consuming!
There'a always some hiccups with boating as well...when we launched the boat this morning, it wouldn't start. After trying several things and some nice people helping us to jump our battery, which we found out wasn't the problem, we figured out that we just needed to turn it off and put the throttle all the way up to turn it off. Then when we turned it on again, it started up just fine! (Yesterday, when I turned it off, it wasn't all the way in the off position. The boat store said this happens all the time and to just turn it completely off, put it in the off position and start it again!) We knew it wasn't the battery because the boat is brand new, but we were stumped with what it could be! Then, when Bill drove the boat this morning to the lake, the back seat of the boat flew out and was lost! (I drove to the lake with Jenell, but Bill said he didn't even see it fly out.) They've had problems with this on this model and had cinched it down with heavy duty snaps, but it STILL wasn't secure... so we played today without a back bench on our boat! It's fine and they'll replace it free of charge and make sure it's fixed, but just more stuff to deal with! It worked out fine though... (UPDATE: We actually found the bench off the side of I-15 driving up the next day to go to Megan and Todd's!!! Hahahaha!! We stuck it in our back seat to give back to the boat dealer, but it's banged up pretty badly!) We'll get this boating thing figured out at some point! Just when I think we've figured it out, something else happens...it's hard when you've got a bunch of anxious teenagers who want to play, but this crew handled it well! We were up and running after only being delayed for about a 1/2 hour! :)
The last pictures are of Katelyn and Jed. They needed to drive the tractor somewhere to get it ready for the Kanosh Pioneer Day Parade the next day. Katelyn LOVED being able to drive it! (City girl!) Jed wasn't so enthused about it, but having Katelyn there made it fun!
