Greece Day 10-- Spetses

9.12.2025

The boat unfurled all of the sails and had tenders go out this morning for anyone who wanted to take pictures of it in it's full glory! I didn't want to, but I got these pictures from people who did! This is our boat! We went on a walking tour that was more hot and sweaty than it was interesting. Basically, we learned that the war for Greece's independence back in 1821started on this island and that this island boasts a long naval tradition-- one of the reasons that the war broke out here first. We are very close to mainland Greece and could see it from the island. The walking tour was very hot and about midway through it, Jim asked if anyone wanted to turn back because now would be the time if you didn't want to walk all the way around to see the lighthouse. Well, you could see the lighthouse from where we were standing so Bill and I opted to go back. Not surprisingly, most of the group bailed at this point! Hahaha! It was just too hot and muggy! I was drenched with sweat and so tired of just walking around in the hot sun! We went back to the ship and got our swimsuits on and tendered back to the island and went swimming. This was the BEST part of the day as the water was so refreshing and the sand was so soft-- but you had to walk past a bunch of rocks that were really hard to walk on that really ripped up your feet-- but so worth it for that water! Allison and I went by ourselves-- Bill decided to stay on the boat and rest and Robin opted to do the rest of the tour. (Of course-- she can't miss anything!) Allison and I went shopping and I found a pair of such cute sandals that were made by the family that owned the shop! A true mom and pop shop! The leather in Greece is really good quality and they weren't that expensive, AND they were cute, so I bought them! We had fun poking around with our group-- all the people that didn't want to finish that tour-- and we ate a gelato while we waited for THE LAST tender to come get us! I would've waded in that water for another hour if I had the time! I wish that tour was optional, but it ended up being a fun day!
