Greece Day 3- Flight to Santorini and Back...
9.05.2025

We had to be in the lobby early at 5am this morning to catch our flight to the Greek island of Santorini. Our first stop when we arrived was seeing the excavations of Akrotiri. This is the most important prehistoric settlement found anywhere in the Eastern Mediterranean and known as the Minoan Pompeii. It was a flourishing town that was destroyed but also preserved under layers of dirt by a volcanic eruption around 1450 BC. Then we went to the picturesque village of Megalochori and meandered through it's cobbled paths and streets with it's neoclassical houses and old cave houses where the sailors used to live. People still live in them today! Sailors used to live in them as protection against pirates. These homes all date back to the 17th century. We saw 2 churches that stand at the center of the village. For our last stop on the island, we went to the famous village of Oia-- pronounced Eeea. Here we enjoyed the views typically associated with the Greek islands with the blue domed churches and stark white buildings. We walked the narrow streets and Bill and I enjoyed a nice lunch with a beautiful view of the ocean! It was nice to take a break as we were so hot and sweaty-- it's warm here with A LOT of humidity! We met up with our group and transferred back to the airport for our flight back to Athens. We enjoyed dinner as a group and then headed for bed!
