Spiders, Superhero Tattoos, and Patience (Katelyn's Letter)

7.04.2022

Hey y'allll!

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY! This week we did zone conference which is where the people in my zone get together and talk with our mission president and his wife about missionary work and bettering ourselves! The testimonies and lessons shared were so so good. I love my zone!

Seeds of Faith
Honestly this week was a rough week for me with lots of personal struggles. I feel like someone who reads this could benefit from this message so here it is:) Sometimes God does not give us the answers to our desperate pleas and it's easy for us to say, "Where are you?!" But as our Heavenly Father does everything out of love so too do we face trials with determination and the knowledge that He knows the masterpiece that will come out of the refiners fire. In Amy A. Wright's talk "Christ Heals that Which is Broken", she talks about the story in Acts chapter 3 about the lame man who comes and waits at the temple to be healed for 40 years before Peter and John find him.

She says: "Oftentimes we can find ourselves, like the lame beggar at the gate of the temple, patiently—or sometimes impatiently—“wait[ing] upon the Lord.” Waiting to be healed physically or emotionally. Waiting for answers that penetrate the deepest part of our hearts. Waiting for a miracle. Waiting upon the Lord can be a sacred place—a place of polishing and refining where we can come to know the Savior in a deeply personal way."

After 40 years of waiting, verse 8 of Acts chapter 3 reads: "And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God." We may not leap up from our trials anytime soon or even in this life, but we can admire the lessons God teaches us out of love and wisdom!

*INVITATION*
One Christlike attribute all of us have to learn through trials is patience. Preach My Gospel defines patience as "The capacity to endure delay, trouble, opposition, or suffering without becoming angry, frustrated, or anxious. It is the ability to do God’s will and accept His timing." This week I invite y'all to work on your patience, especially with yourselves! Even Jesus Christ had to have patience and He had all the answers! Dive deeper into this attribute in your personal study and I promise that God will provide new perspective to the trials you face!

Fun Things
-Tommy(Sister Thompson) had to pee in the woods/street because the gas station was too far away.
-Hal showed us all his cool superhero tattoos.
-We saw a spider as big as my hand on someone's front porch and Toom (Sister Toomer) touched it and it ran away SO FAST and we screamed SO LOUD that the person we were visiting ran to the door and we were so frazzled, it was hilarious!
-A lady threatened us and said we were lucky she was in a good mood or else she would "tell us a few things" her chihuahua* (idk how to spell it haha) was barking and giving us the eye the whole time too!

Gratitude
-AMERICA! We are so dagum lucky to experience the freedoms we have!
-My amazing mission president and his adorable wife!!
-Jesus Christ's apostles for writing down the stories about Him that we learn so much from!
-The Holy Ghost and His role in our lives!
-Driving with the windows down.
-Kind and tender unexpected notes (go write one for someone right now!)
