Monday we went to Kappabashi— the “kitchen goods” district. Heaven! They had so many fun little shops! Bought some of that Goma sauce. Some for Todd too... 'cuz I know he’ll love it! We went with a bunch of women from Becky's ward. They were all so nice! After a bit we split off from them and went to Sensoji to a Buddhist shrine and gardens... supposedly the oldest one in Japan. I loved all the beautiful Japanese girls in their traditional Kimonos walking around. They were so pretty with their make-up and hair done so beautifully! We got our fortunes... the first one was bad, so Becky showed us that you tie it to a stand and they believe that after you do that, it won't bother you anymore. We tried again and got a good fortune the 2nd time! Yay! (I especially like that it says, "The person you wait for will come." Brooke!!) They had a lot of shops there and I bought some really nice chop sticks... gotta get better at using them now! (They are dishwasher proof! We Google translated it, so we know!) On our way to Sensoji, we stopped and got some Taiyaki-- soooo good! It's basically a fish shaped pancake filled with different types of fillings. We tried custard, sweet potatoes, and a sweet bean they have in Japan and a few others. They were really good...my personal favorite was the sweet potato! It was a fun day walking and talking with Becky and her teaching us about their culture. She knows a lot!! After Sensoji, we walked to the Tokyo Skytree— the highest tower in the city that overlooks all of Tokyo. We tried to find the train (subway) but couldn't so we just walked it. It looked closer than it was, but we got some great exercise! It was fun to see the view of Tokyo and the building and skyscrappers go on forever! It really is a city of 30 million people and you get a sense of that looking down at it all. We saw a faint outline of Mt. Fuji-- they say she's a shy mountain and we are finding that to be true! We also saw the Tokyo Tower which is near where Becky and Greg live.
For Family Home Evening, they took us to a type of Japanese food that was really good— basically fried pork but it was really good. After we went for boba drinks— so good! Do you know what that is? Milk and cream and fruit blended together with boba (tapioca) balls at the bottom... I think I found my new favorite drink!
