Flooring, Beams and Garage Floor Coating...

5.19.2023

We are really getting down to the wire (in more than one way)!!! The flooring is going along pretty smoothly since the rough start earlier this week. Everything looks so good and I am thrilled with it!! I even LOVE the stairs and the white facings they are putting in! LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. The beam stain color is getting fixed, but the guy misunderstood and stripped the mantel too!! (He was only supposed to do the beams!!) So I guess that's going to be a lighter stain too! I don't even know what to think at this point! I'm just gonna have to go with it... ugh!! I am also really glad I got to the house when I did, because the flooring guys were going into the storage room downstairs and that is supposed to be industrial carpet!!! Terry said they were told and had it reiterated several times, but they did it anyway! One of 2 things could've happened... 1. We could've run out of flooring for what DID need to be done or 2. We would not have any extra in case we ever had a flood, or needed it to repair anything. I just don't understand what is going on with all these workers!!! They DO NOT LISTEN to instructions!!!! Then I went and talked to the guy doing our garage floor coating and he laughed and said that his helper went on vacation so he had to do it all by himself-- the WHOLE job that is supposed to take several days WITH a helper! He thought it was funny, because his helper is his wife who decided, just out of no where that she needed to take a vacation!! This guy knows we are on a serious time crunch AND he told me he isn't going to work tomorrow which is a Saturday, which when he gave me the bid he said he would do to keep us on schedule! I just can't believe how blatantly rude, lazy, apathetic, disinterested in doing the job right, people are right now!!! It is a different world right now and I don't think it's going to change.... this is our new normal!! It's so unfortunate! And I've run into all of this with other sub contractors within the last week, a lot! The entire building process has been this way, but we haven't necessarily been in a hurry until now. Needless to say, I am experiencing a LOT of anxiety and stress right now!!! But I have to remind myself that this is all way out of my control and I have to pray every single day (multiple times a day!) that things will work out and that we really need a miracle-- or some miracles-- for this to all work out!! I know this will all soon be behind me and that I will LOVE this house... but it's just hard right now!
