Hurricane Ian is Headed Straight for Katelyn!!!!!!!!!!!
9.29.2022

I got a facetime call with Katelyn today (which took me totally off guard since it's not a Monday), letting us know that she and her companion were packing up and heading to higher and drier ground. Hurricane Ian shifted direction and what was supposed to be a tropical storm was upgraded to a Category 1 or 2 hurricane headed straight for Charleston, SC. It has already hit Florida with lots of flooding and damage. It's a HUGE storm. Her mission president evacuated everyone in the mission that was in the coastal areas. She headed for Columbia this afternoon and it's supposed to hit tomorrow! It's already raining non-stop there. Luckily they have an emergency evacuation plan in place that has been well-communicated to all the missionaries. I texted Jenna Anderson today and she said that Joseph is evacuating to Lexington. It's funny because Katelyn texted me the first picture below a few weeks ago to tell me her address and I casually commented that I hoped she'd never have to use the evacuation instructions! Well... I was sure wrong about that! I screenshotted some of the group chat texts back and forth. A little later we got an email from the mission office letting parents know that everyone will safely evacuate and that an emergency plan was in place. Each missionary has an emergency bucket provided by the mission with essentials for when this happens. Luckily they had plenty of time to pack what they needed but they also grab that bucket too! I'm kind of glad I knew about this emergency plan beforehand... it helped me to feel calmer about things today! Saying a prayer also helped a lot! We just heard from Katelyn this evening and she is in Columbia and SAFE!
