Hey y'alllll!
I'M IN SOUTH CAROLINA!!!! It's so green and pretty here! Some people have called it (don't quote me on this) the Hawaii of the East!! The people here are so amazing and wack and kind all rolled into one haha! It's hard sometimes meeting with friends from really hard circumstances but my faith in Christ and His healing power have grown so much on behalf of these people! I have two trainers who are THE ABSOLUTE BEST! They are hilarious! I laugh so hard everyday with them. It's a party and a half!
Seeds of Faith:
We've been meeting with a guy named Tiny (he's not tiny haha) who is getting BAPTISED this Saturday!! I am so excited for him! He has such an open mind and really understands the gospel and how it can and has changed his life! He has a big painting in his house of a black Jesus which I thought was really cool. Realistically Jesus wasn't really black or even white as most paintings depict but it's the message that this gospel and Jesus Christ is for EVERYONE that I love to think about! 2 Nephi 26:33 says:
"...he inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile."
One of the things I've learned since being here is that assumptions based on race, looks, the way a person talks, their circumstances, or even the smell of weed pouring out of their house should and does not steer us away from having a friendly conversation and sharing positivity. Everyone deserves a smile in their day and I've loved getting to help uplift strangers even if we don't end up teaching them! I've learned so much from these humble people!
*Invitation*
I invite all y'all to say hello to everyone you pass one day. Just wave and smile and/or start up a conversation with a stranger that has a different background than you! I know it's scary --I'm not a super outgoing person but I promise you it will open you to be able to understand the vastness of Christ's love more fully and learn that we are all more alike than we think! Please please try! I promise it will change you!
Funny Things:
El Chapo the alcoholic goat: SO we found some people who have a goat that tried to charge at us but thankfully there was a fence in the way. Come to find out he BREAKS DOWN the fence all the time and guess what they do to get him back in?? He comes to their porch and waits for them to give him some BEER haha! They literally get him drunk enough so that they can wiggle him back into his gate haha! I LOVE El Chapo --by far my favorite critter we've seen and there's been A LOT.
We were at a members house and their little 16 month old kept untying my dress so I'm introducing myself while playing tugga war with this little girl hahaha! It was pretty funny and she was super cute!
Guys there's literally so many hilarious things that happen DAILY especially with my comps! They figured out I startle easily so we've had a little scare contest going heehee.
Lots of bugs here and they love to hang out on people's doorsteps for some reason, so that's been an adventure.
Gratitude:
Chick-fil-A (Huge comfort when I was feeling homesick cuz my sis and I ate there a lot)
FIREFLIES!
Gumbo! (Some members made it homemade and it was AMAZING)
Air conditioning!!!
Faith and trust in hard times (For myself and those we've met)
Beautiful lakes and nature!
