The girls slept in until 10am this morning! Truly a Christmas miracle! I got up and got totally ready and Bill put out the stockings we got them. They were totally surprised again, as they were not expecting any gifts. We just got them a few little things, some candy and a couple of gift cards. It was fun to open something on Christmas morning. Bill was in charge of my stocking, and in it was an ornament of a Maltese dog. At first I was confused and didn't get it, but I soon realized that I was getting a puppy for Christmas. Below are some pictures of our puppy-- she's coming after we get back from DC! I had thought about getting a Maltese/Yorkie mix ("Morkie") because she are so good to help with anxiety, etc. I had looked into it and even discussed it with Bill. Well, he'd looked into getting a puppy for our family because he'd done some research, as well, on the benefits of these dogs and had already ordered her (yes, she's female!) before I'd even spoken to him about it the first time! So when I came to him talking about all the benefits of this dog, it sealed the deal! CRAZY!! She is a Maltese dog-- not a mix, but one of Bill's clients that have one got it for the same reason. Maltese dogs are super sweet too. After we ate breakfast at the hotel, we took some boxes of blankets and back packs and delivered them to a shelter here close by. The man who came out to get them was so happy to receive these things and very excitedly told us about their shelter. I was really impressed with how they run it and use the donations that are given to them. He had a foreign accent and was a black man. He was really nice. It felt good to do something to give to people in DC who aren't in a good situation this Christmas!! He said they have a lot of women and children in there right now and needed blankets due to the cold. After we dropped the boxes off, we headed over to see Marty Tamulevich, who was recently converted to the church when Megan got to the Bethesda area. He was a sweet man and so very interesting to talk to! He's had a hard life and was just diagnosed with cancer, but seemed to be in really good spirits. We visited with him for about an hour because he had a dinner appointment with someone in the ward. Then, we drove to see Marvin Amaya-- Megan's first baptism in her mission! She taught him with Sister Griffin. It was so fun to see him and talk to him. He's a funny guy! His children were baptized after he got baptized. (Their names are Marvin and Aliyah.) We had fun eating dinner with them and hearing all about the time when he came to know the gospel was true! He called Megan his guardian angel. At dinner, he called on one of his kids to pray. Later, Megan got all emotional because she'd taught him to pray, and now he was doing it on his own and teaching his children to do it! There's nothing sweeter as a missionary, then to return to an area where you taught and find people grasping hold of the gospel and loving it!! Marvin had moved since Megan taught him, so we had a long drive back to our hotel that night, but it was a good tired. We had a great day! What a fun Christmas!!!!!
