We picked up Deanna Holdsworth around noon and headed for AZ! About 1 ½ hours into the drive we ran into car trouble—out in the dessert in the middle of nowhere! We waited on the side of the road for a good hour before the tow truck came. Due to the virus… we had to ride in the car... ON THE TOW TRUCK! That was possibly the craziest things I’ve ever done! I really think we are throwing caution to the wind right now! How can riding in the car on the tow truck be safe!?!?!!!!! That just seemed so ridiculous to me! It absolutely CANNOT be safer... in the cab IN THE TOW TRUCK is safer! But according to the towing company, the threat of the Rona is a bigger threat! Yeah, right! Our only alternative would've been to wait longer for a taxi to come get us and we would’ve had to wait even longer outside in the heat. It was 97 degrees and very hot and we had Dexter with us! It was only about 15 miles to the mechanic so we took our chances… ugh! Deanna is such a fun person and we all made the best of our situation! She has cancer, which is why she came with us to CA… she has treatments and chemo that she gets at a Cancer Center in Litchfield Park. She has lost all her hair and wears a wig… anyway… I can tell she is very weak and the cancer has gotten more aggressive recently. I could tell that she was having a hard time in the heat, but she NEVER complained… just joked around and had fun with it! She is such a sweet lady! At one point while we were waiting on the side of the road, Katelyn wanted to get out and take pictures specifically dropping a hat and taking a picture of it dropping… so Deanna got out and threw it in the air for her ‘til she got just the right shot! I thought that was so sweet of her to do that for Katelyn! Luckily we were in the shade in the car and there was at least a breeze coming through the windows! That was a huge blessing! After we finally got to the mechanics shop, we were able to go to the bathroom (yes, it was an emergency situation!), and cool off in the A/C of the waiting room. They were super nice and offered us water! We got to know them quickly and were joking around with them after a while! Dexter made friends with all of them too! When we realized the car needed a new alternator, we arranged for a rental car and were on our way after a 3 hour delay! We got dinner at the Wendy’s drive through and were finally on the road! We visited all the way home! It was a fun drive! We made it home at 8:30pm, unpacked and headed to BED! It was a really nice and relaxing girls trip for Katelyn and I!
