Wow it was a CRAZY WEEK! First off we went to the Temple on Tuesday with ours and two other zones. SO AMAZING. Then on Thursday we were expecting a little tropical storm from hurricane Ian which changed direction to head straight for Charleston! So one minute we were getting ready for a rain day in our apartment and the next we were being evacuated to Columbia! So we spent a couple nights there. We came back on Saturday. (Everything is fine --nothing got destroyed. The power just went out for some people.) Then we watched GENERAL CONFERENCE! Wow it was so powerful and centered in our relationship with Jesus Christ and the power of His Atonement!
Seeds of Faith
General Conference really helped me with some of my spiritual hurricanes! Here's some quotes:
“I am learning that Heavenly Father is more interested in my growth as a disciple of Jesus Christ than He is with my comfort.” —Sister Michelle D. Craig
"A true Christian cannot follow the Master only in those matters with which he or she agrees. No. We follow Him everywhere, including, if necessary, into arenas filled with tears and trouble, where sometimes we may stand very much alone." —Jeffrey R. Holland
"As our Church population grows ever more diverse, our welcome must grow ever more spontaneous and warm." —D. Todd Christofferson
“Many wonderful things are ahead!" —Russell M. Nelson
“While the world insists that power, possessions, popularity, and pleasures of the flesh bring happiness, they do not! They cannot!” —Russell M. Nelson
"When you yoke yourself to Jesus Christ and do the spiritual work required to overcome the world, He, and He alone, does have the power to lift you above the pull of this world." — Russel M. Nelson
*INVITATION*
Hurricane Ian forced me to realize my priorities. What did I grab first when we got the news we had to leave? I'll admit I probably didn't need to grab my Nerd Cluster Candies but I stuffed that bag with necessities and cherished items that I could never replace. It taught me that I value the things that remind me of my growth in life and my relationships with loved ones. What would you put in your bag? Ponder what that means and learn more about yourself!
Fun Things:
-We were judges at the youth's pinewood derby on Wednesday.
-We were evacuated with my MTC comp Sister Myers to the Columbia Spanish Sisters' apartment --so that was so fun!
-We had meals with the other senior couples in our apartment complex so it was fun to meet with all the missionaries that lived there and the evacuated missionaries. There were a lot!!
-We watched the Sunday sessions of General Conference with the Hunts --an amazing family in our ward! One of their daughters was playing with my pop socket wallet and left it in her play kitchen so all of us were looking for it after conference hahaha.
-Little Brody Hunt challenged us in Super Smash Bros and DESTROYED US. Sister West and I were laughing sooooo hard at the whole thing which shows how entertainment deprived we are bahaha!
Gratitude
-Technology that allows us to predict and prepare for natural disasters.
-Our ward members' incredible care and support for us missionaries. They are amazing!
