Katelyn's last STATE Swim Meet...The END of an Era!!
11.07.2020

Katelyn had to be at the school at 5:15 am this morning! The boys competed first and the girls competed later on in the afternoon—one and done this year—no prelims. So you could medal in any of the 4 heats, so you had to really pay attention to times in each heat, so you knew how it ended up! No medal ceremonies either! Medals will be mailed to the high schools! Daniel Matheson beat the school record again, plus got the STATE RECORD in the 500 Free! He got an incredible 4:20 on that race!! SO AMAZING!! (And first place, of course.) He was named “Athlete of the Meet” too! Katelyn did really well too, on her last High School swim meet! I think both her relays got 6th place overall—maybe one of them got 5th. She was in the Medley and the 400. She did so awesome on her 50 Free doing a personal best at 26.69. She did amazing on the 100 Fly too with a 1:03. She pushed herself really hard, but she said she also really tried to have fun and enjoy herself too! I’m glad she did. Dad and I went out to Allison’s house to watch the meet, because spectators weren’t allowed. We thought the team was going to dinner after somewhere out in Mesa, but they ended up going to Chili’s in Peoria, so we went all the way out there for nothing… oh well. I REALLY missed being there in person, but it was also kinda nice to watch it on a COUCH!! We cheered REALLY hard from the couch!! By the time we got home last night it was almost 10pm! It was ANOTHER LONG DAY!! (Especially for Katelyn!!) It turned off really cold last night and it was windy too! The 400 relay was really cold when they swam because the sun was also going down! Crazy day!! We had a nice dinner with the team and with both coaches. What a swim season, and what a way to go out after 10 seasons with our girls on the SMHS swim team! This is the end of an era for our family!
