Day 2 of the State Swim Meet!!

It was a another great day! The girls decided to stack the Medley Relay and so Brooke did not swim in that final heat today, BUT they were able to get a 3rd place medal and be up on the medal stand! I'm sure this was bittersweet for Brooke as she had swum to qualify that event yesterday, but I'm sure she was happy for her teammates who were able to get a medal! I'm proud of Brooke for having a great attitude and showing great sportsmanship in allowing another teammate to swim in her place so they could medal! She did her part by qualifying the event to even be able to go after the medal in the first place! This made me SO proud of her today! A lot of her fellow teammates were able to get on the medal stand in their events and Brooke cheered them all on! There is more to a great athlete than just pure ability to perform, and Brooke showed this today-- with grace and class! It made me so happy and proud to be her Mom! Later, she swam the 200 Freestyle Relay in the consolation heat and they came in 11th place. That's the 11th fastest 200 Relay team in the State! When you think of it that way, it is pretty amazing. The team performed great today and our girls were able to come in 4th place OVERALL!! Brooke can feel proud that she contributed points to that placement! (Note: They came in 4th place after 3 other teams that were moved down from Division 1 this year. The teams were Chaparral, Arcadia and Catalina Foothills...no one understands why these teams were moved down to Div. 2. Div. 1 has 30 teams and Div. 2 has over 60 teams... kind of lopsided if you ask me! The boys and girls swam with future Olympian Ryan Hoffer and an Olympian that swam for Canada last summer-- Taylor Ruck...both of them swim for Chaparral. There was some stiff competition so a 4th place was an amazing ranking for our girls!)

Gavin and Cole Sorensen mimicking Callie and Brooke! BTW, Cole broke the school record in the Men's 50 Freestyle TODAY...taking Marshall Dilworth (yes, the coach's son) OFF the record board! (Marshall had held this record for almost a decade, to give this a bit of perspective!) Cole's been trying to do this ALL year, and he accomplished it TODAY at the very LAST meet and opportunity of his Senior year! And, he's such a nice kid!!

I congratulated him and he very graciously said "thank you!"
