We were really dirty and stinky but we made it back to the Stake Center at 2:30 after a long day of more trekking and a long and hot bus ride back to the valley! It was an awesome Trek and we grew so close to our family! Katelyn also loved Trek and grew so much!
Here's my journal entry from the day:
We got up at 5:30 just as all the other days. The kids wanted to stay up later last night and visit and have fun because they weren't quite as tired, so it was harder to get them up in the morning. We went to the final reenactment where Moroni deposited the records into the Hill Cumorah, and then Joseph Smith came to retrieve them. It was really neat how they did it and the actors all did such a great job! We had a short testimony meeting where many from our ward got up to bear their testimonies. Jesse bore his testimony and spoke with the spirit so beautifully-- he's a man of very few words, so that was amazing to hear him express his feelings that way! We all sang the song with "As Sisters in Zion" and "Army of Helaman" interwoven with each other and it was so powerful. We linked our arms over our shoulders and stood in a family circle while we sang it. It was so powerful and amazing! After the closing prayer, we walked to our already loaded up cart and started to trek back to the busses-- and it wasn't a short trek either. We went over rough terrain again and it took a couple of hours. We got to the meadow where we first picked up our carts and put our gear down into the bins and then got to head back up the hill without having to carry our duffle bags this time! It was still a really tough hike and took another 45 minutes to finally reach the top where we were to load the busses. They fed us lunch, which tasted so good! (BBQ Beef Sandwiches, chips and carrot sticks). Heidi and I had hiked back up the mountain together and when we got to the top, her husband Rick came walking toward us with ice cold water bottles! I gave him a huge hug and told him I loved him! (I'd run out of water and was extremely hot and thirsty AND tired and that water perked me right up!) He probably thought I was some crazy lady! He was the one who played Samuel the Lamanite last night. We ate with our families under the shade of a tree and then it was time to load the busses. It was a long, hot drive home, but we made it back to the Stake Center by 2:30 and were home by 3:00. It was fun to reunite with Katelyn as I hardly saw her the whole trek!We spent the remainder of the day unloading our stuff and putting away all our gear and sorting and doing laundry. I can't believe how much dust and dirt was in my laundry room. We all came home so dirty and smelly! It felt good to take a shower but I didn't even feel clean at first, so I bathed again! I had to wash my hair twice too! We got everything cleaned up and put away and went out to a late dinner at 8 after Brooke got off work. It was nice to finally climb into bed and get a good night's rest in my very comfy bed that I missed so much! It also felt good to sit in a chair! The simple things of life...
