My journal entry for the day:
Friday morning we awoke early and also got instructions for the day in our Liahona, as the other days as well. We ate breakfast and then headed over to the area in main camp where we met every day and the tower had been changed to the temple and we were now in the land Bountiful! They converted that tower into a Nephite temple! It was so amazing! There were lots of reenactments that day as well, which were so powerful. Then we rotated around to the games again all morning. I loved the activity where we got to roll a penny and flatten it and then engrave our name on it. We then sprayed black paint on it and buffed it off so you could see the lettering and it also shined the penny back up. Then we took it over to where they nailed in onto a frame with a picture of a family tree-- of all the people who were at Trek from our stake this year. It looked so neat! I loved watching them. Each penny was a little different color and some chose not to shine their penny as much as others, and some chose not to shine it at all and leave it black, but it was truly a beautiful piece of art! After the activities, we returned back to our camp and had lunch together on our tarp. (I missed sitting in a chair for 4 days straight!!!) It was pretty much the same lunch as the day before. Then we played the "Proud Whip" game where you sit in a circle and write in each other's journals the things you admire about each person. This was a particularly moving experience for our family and took longer than it was supposed to. I'm glad we didn't rush it though, because it was such a spiritual experience as we wrote about each member of our tribe and then went around and talked about each person-- reading what we'd put down! It was kind of interwoven with a testimony meeting as well, as people bore their testimonies throughout it! Dan bore his testimony about how his testimony had been wavering quite a bit before Trek and that before he wasn't sure if he really believed the gospel, and because of Trek, he now had the desire to go on a mission! (Bill overheard his testimony in his meeting today at church and he was saying the same thing about the experiences he'd had on Trek). Several bore testimony that they were strengthened by doing something extremely difficult and how that process really helped them. We missed our dance practice because our meeting went over, but we didn't even care! It was so worth it to be present for that sweet spiritual moment with our family! Some beautiful things were said about each other! So everybody met together and all the Emmas and Abbas performed our dance. It went well and was surprisingly fun! Then we spent the rest of the afternoon in the hot sun (it was the hottest of all 4 days on the Trek) learning different dances together on that big dusty field-- we got so dusty and dirty kicking up the dust as we moved around. It was fun though. Then I started to feel really dehydrated! I'd preached the whole time about drinking enough water, but I myself wasn't even drinking enough! Claire had been sick the night before and then Sarah got sick on Friday, right after I was feeling kind of sick. It was very hot and dry up there and I'm sure the altitude didn't help a lot either. Claire got a blessing the night before and the family had a really neat experience with that where they offered a prayer before the blessing together. The next morning she felt fine! After learning the dances I felt a little sick so I lied down for a quick nap to feel better, and then Sarah got really sick. Her heart rate was super fast and the camp Dr. came to look at her. He told her to drink a certain amount of water within the next 15 minutes or they might have to give her an IV!! Well she really didn't want to drink that water and continued to feel sick, but she didn't need and IV. We were all really worried about her so we gave her a blessing, as well. Isaac was the one to suggest that we say a prayer first-- remembering that a prayer had been said first before Claire's blessing the night before. I thought that was super neat that he thought to remind us to do that! These kids have taught ME so much about faith! After dinner, which was a rice and corn dish that Charity and others had cooked while I was asleep, we went to the night program. It was the other half of the talent show with another set of really funny and cute skits. Then they did some reenactments with Samuel the Lamanite and ending with the Savior appearing at the temple! It was really moving!!!!
