I brought Grandma to the hospital yesterday...she'd fallen in the tub the night before because she thought she was sitting down on a couch, when in reality she was in her bathroom and sitting on the edge of the tub. She ended up falling backwards into the tub and couldn't get out. Spent the entire night there and got out by tapping on the window when her gardeners were there. They came in and rescued her. She called me and we went to the ER at Thunderbird Hospital. Turns out her disorientation and confusion are due to a series of strokes (real ones this time and not the TIA's) she's had within the last 10 days, and they also found evidence on the MRI as well of strokes that happened that are older than 10 days. This is all so horrible. I thought the disorientation was just due to getting older, etc. Well now we know the signs to look for and can get her right in. (There are about 6 things to look for.) She is being well cared for, and is doing much better now. About the only residual effect of the strokes that we can tell is her eyesight-- her eyes are really "jumpy" and it is hard to focus on things. It could go away, or become her new "normal". We're hoping it goes away! Earlier today, she didn't look good at all and was vomiting a lot. I thought we were going to lose her! Eduardo Pagan-- her home teacher came and gave her a blessing with Bill. It was a very sweet and tender blessing. It said that Heavenly Father is in charge of her care and that he is guiding the Drs. So I brought the girls to see her tonight, because I just wasn't sure. Well, by the time we came back, she had done a complete turn around and was doing so well. She was talkative, clear and coherent in her speech and excited to see the girls. We had a nice visit and things seem a lot better. As we walked to our car tonight I thought to myself, "She is one tough lady! She can survive a night in a bathtub, cold and achy from her arthritis and old age, and she seems to have recovered from her strokes. I think she may live a couple more years!" It's been a rough couple of days, but tonight she took a turn for the better!!
Me on mom's phone trying to get ahold of her hair dresser to cancel her appointment!
We love Grandma!
Flowers the girls picked out for her...she LOVES tulips!
