Thursday morning we woke up early in order to get over to the Marriott Center to get a seat. Bill went early to take Brooke and some girls from her ward over to where they were lining up in front of the administration building. The Commencement was really wonderful! They had Elder Christofferson presiding and Elder Gong spoke! Afterward we met up with Brooke and I put her nursing pin on. (It’s normally a ceremony and part of graduation but the nursing department had the students do it separately— it’s called a pinning ceremony.) After that we walked over to the Kimball Tower and Brooke showed us the Nursing Learning Center which is basically a mock hospital set up with rooms and very expensive dummies that do different things. One even has a baby! Then we took pictures outside in front of the building. We met up with Katelyn at the Kimball Tower— was fun to see her!! We walked over to the Wilkinson Center and got a bite to eat and then headed over to the JSB for Brooke’s Nursing Convocation. We didn’t get there early enough and barely found seats— in the very front. Bill had to sit on the other side. The Ferrell's were there for their daughter Allyssa and sat a few rows behind us. We got to talk to them for a bit. It was a really nice ceremony and now it’s official— Brooke is a college graduate and (almost) a nurse! She still needs to take the NCLEX and then she can start applying for jobs. After Convocation, we literally went all over campus to take pictures of Brooke. We started at the Maeser building. We finished just in time before our dinner reservation at La Jolla Groves. It was a really nice dinner and tasted soooo good. We were all really hungry! After, we went to their apt. and played Uno (with HUGE cards!) and Mario Kart— my first time ever playing!!
I am just so proud of Brooke and all her efforts to focus on and finish her goal of becoming a nurse! She graduated Cum Laude, which is extremely hard to do and in such a competitive environment of only 60 in her class and a very demanding program at BYU! She is going to bless so many lives! She not only has good sense in her ability to think through things and solve problems, but she has a unique compassion and emotional intuitiveness with people! What a great combination to heal physically and even emotionally! I am just so proud of this girl and all her hard work!
