Megan's Letter On 10/31/16 - HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

10.31.2016

Happy Halloween everybody!
We had a good week this week, especially in the Visitors' Center! A lot of people came in on Saturday who were looking to strengthen their relationship with Jesus Christ! Here are a few experiences that we had:

Noah and Carlin- Noah and Carlin were a couple that came in who were both Jewish! They had SO many AMAZING questions about our faith! They approached us and it was so great to take them around the Visitors' Center! We ended up spending three hours with them! They were great examples to me!

Two Catholic girls- So two Catholic girls living here in DC came into the VC and they said that they had to come and check out the temple because they drive past it every day! They said that they had a lot of friends out serving missions right now and that they wanted to learn more! One of the girls said that she really looked up to one of her friends out serving a mission! I thought this was the coolest thing! They had such great questions and it was so fun taking them around!

Laura and her daughter- This sweet lady named Laura came into the VC and told us how her daughter had to do a research paper about our religion! We told them that they came to the PERFECT place! We took them around and shared our beliefs with them and GUESS WHAT? They gladly agreed to learning more and for us to keep in touch! The whole time the mom was saying, "This is so interesting!" She was very spiritually sensitive and loved the spirt that was present at the Visitors' Center!

Mark Lusvardi- So Mark Lusvardi is in charge of all of the Visitors' Centers around the world! We had the wonderful opportunity this morning to hear from him! He gave wonderful insights on how we can better use Visitors' Centers! We also got to see the sneak peak of the new Christmas Videos the Church is putting out this year! They are SO GOOD! I cant wait for you all to see them! :)

In our area this week we had a little tender mercy from our Heavenly Father! We were out having  a crazy night contacting. We were handing out pictures of Jesus Christ and we came across this lady named Jessica! She is from Brazil and she loved what we were sharing! She was interested in learning more! She said she was really open to learning more about Jesus Christ! YAY! We are meeting with her tomorrow!

Yesterday our mission President and his wife came and spoke at our ward! It was the BEST! I love them so much! The whole Sunday was centered on Missionary Work and how we can better follow the example of Jesus Christ! It was amazing! We loved it! It was the best Sunday ever.

Here is my spiritual thought to finish up: "Satan wants us to be perfect by ourselves. God wants us to be perfect through Jesus Christ."  I LOVE this quote! I know that it is through Jesus Christ that we can become better! As we strive to follow the example of Jesus Christ, we will become what ever we want to become!
Love you all!
Sister Megan Freeman

Sister Hugely (an AMAZING lady in our ward) took us out to dinner!
She is the BEST and is like another grandma to us!:)

Haha, Sister Haertling and I were twins for Halloween!

Our ward trunk or treat was super fun

  Our Gospel Principles class!!:)

GUESS WHAT!? Bernice went through the temple for the first time and the missionary
that taught her when she was younger came down for it! It was so neat!:)!

(Mom's note:  I got this picture off of the mission Facebook page this morning.  It said that it was a picture of half of the missionaries currently serving in the DC North Mission.)

Katelyn's Middle School State XC Race!

10.29.2016

Bill was able to high tail it over to Katelyn's meet after Brooke swam her 400 Relay today!  (The meet was running early.)  She did well.  There were 400 girls in her age category of 7th and 8th grade.  The course bottlenecked at the beginning making it really hard to get through.  Bill said that girls were running in place, pushing each other to get through it.  This frustrated Katelyn a bit.  There was plenty of room to make the course wider too!  Oh well, it has been a great season and Katelyn has improved as a runner so much!  Go Katie go!!!!!

 400 girls lined up!

The masses are coming!  Katelyn is in the far right in front!

Katelyn to the right, just in the frame!

Keep it up Katelyn!

 Coming into the finish line!

Way to finish strong Katelyn!

District Championship Finals At GCC~Brooke

Another great day in the pool, although Brooke really wanted to get better times today.  She had a new kneeskin and was really hoping it would help her more, I think.  But it was a great day!  She did NOT swim the 200 relay, as they really needed to stack that race.  The girls ended up winning all three of the relays today, giving us some huge points as they are scored double!  Brooke dropped time in both of her individual events and ended up 5th overall in both the 200 IM and the 100 Free.  The 400 relay was SO FUN to watch!  It came right down to the wire, but we ended up pulling it off and Brooke's team secured the #1 medal!  So she got to be on the medal stand today which is awesome!  She wasn't as thrilled with today's results, but I am so proud of her.  She is such a versatile swimmer and will do well in any event!  Coach can put her anywhere, whereas some of the other swimmers are only good in one event or one stroke!  I'm proud of you Brooke!

Making a circle for their team prayer with anyone (including other teams) who wanted to join them.

Lined up for the 200 IM championship heat!  Going against some fast swimmers... Nicole Matheson (SMHS) and Sam Seiber from Liberty.

Lined up again for the 100 Free in the championship heat...

Taking a break at our camp...she got a nice back massage from her favorite mom!

Resting up before the 400 Relay!

I didn't get any pictures of the race, but it was super intense!  These 4 amazing girls did it!  They swam in a different order, so Brooke could try for the official split time swimming first.  Then Connor, Lindsey and Ellice swam getting us a first place medal!

Brooke, Connor Herrin below, Lindsey Thomas upper left and Ellice Richman upper right.

Team pictures after the announcement that we came in 2nd place overall.  Everyone was pretty bummed because we thought we had it!  Boys came in 2nd, Girls came in 2nd giving us 2nd place overall. Liberty must've just barely eecked us out.  Nobody heard the scoring because there was so much noise and chaos!  Coach didn't even hear anything above all the noise.  These kids worked hard and had a great season!  Nothing to be ashamed of!

 Gangsta picture.

Pretty girl with her 1st place medal!

District Championship Prelims At GCC~Brooke

10.28.2016

Brooke swam well today!  She swam the 200IM, the 100 Free and the 200 and 400 Freestyle Relays.  She qualified in both of her individual events for the championship heat tomorrow and in both relays her team got top seed for the championship heats tomorrow.  She is seeded #5 in the 200IM and #6 in the 100 Free.  It was a long, hot day as they changed the format of the meet to run all day, instead of going just a half day.  It is always fun to watch Brooke swim!

Fly leg of the 200IM

Breaststroke leg of the 200IM

Freestyle leg of the 200IM (Didn't get her backstroke leg!)  She got a time of 2:39.55.

Here she is swimming the 100 Free-- pretty good picture!  (She got a time of 1:01.66.)

On the block waiting to swim the 200 Free Relay.  Brooke was first, then Connor Herrin, Calli Gregory and Lindsey Thomas.

Nice start! (She was able to get an official split time of 27:63!)

Yay!  Their relay took 1st overall!  I didn't get any pictures of the 400 relay, but they took first as well.  They are going to have to work to keep those 1st places tomorrow!!
(The 400 team was, in order, Ellice Richman, Brooke, Connor Herrin and Lindsey Thomas.)
