Katelyn's Basketball Playoff Game V. Trivium

5.04.2016

GP played Trivium in our first game of the playoffs.  We just didn't pull it together and their star player scored ALL of their points!  The Refs were letting her get away with a lot of fouls because they knew this team wouldn't stand a chance against us without her.  The reffing was pretty bad.  It always leaves a bad taste in my mouth when a game is clearly influenced by unfair and partial reffing, and that was the case with this game.  And those refs knew it!  Our girls were ending up on the floor-- Trivium was playing football!  Our girls needed helmets and pads!  When it gets like that, i worry about concussions and serious injuries-- but these refs didn't care.  So much for what's good, true and beautiful.  I think the refs should be held to those Great Hearts standards as much as the schools seek after them.  We could've played better ourselves-- Katelyn missed a lot of her shots, but the game probably would've had a much different outcome had the refs done their job.  Once you let a player know that your're going to let her do whatever she wants...she's going to do it!  Every single time.  But as soon as you establish that you're going to call those fouls, she will stop, because she knows she can't get away with it and because she can't foul out-- she's the only one that could score a basket!  The final score was 29-34 and that girl scored all 34 of their points.  Something is wrong with the way that was reffed and I went home very agitated.  But our girls played clean, they just didn't play as well as they usually do.  But they had a great season!  They will come back even stronger next year!  Watch out for the Lady Griffins next year!  Katelyn's going to come back with a vengeance-- especially against Trivium!

The team and Coach MJ DiPietro.
L-R: Nicole, Kieren, Izzy, Maddison, Katelyn, Madelyn, Taylor and Lauren

It was a hard loss, but they can hold their heads up high-- they played fairly!!
